Saab wins order from South Korea worth 14 million USD

LINKOPING, Sweden, Dec. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Saab has received an order from South Korean defence electronics company MteQ Systems Inc. for CEROS 200 multisensor director systems. The systems are intended for the South Korean navy's new PKX-class patrol boats. The contract is worth 14 million USD.

"South Korea has one of the most prominent shipbuilding industries in the world, and this order shows that Saab is well-established in the field of naval Fire Control Directors internationally," says SaabTech President Bjorn Erman.

The contract also involves a technology transfer program for establishing production resources and test equipment in South Korea.

It also includes an option for further director systems and adaptations to the value of approximately 25 million USD.

SaabTech will deliver the first director systems in 2006 for evaluation by South Korea's Agency for Defence Development.

The CEROS 200 is an advanced Fire Control Director system that includes radar and optronic sensors, and can be integrated with all types of command system.

The system, developed and produced by SaabTech in Jarfalla, Sweden, is of the same type as the one supplied for the Swedish navy's Visby-class corvettes, and recently ordered by the Finnish navy for its Squadron 2000 vessels and the Norwegian navy for its Skjold-class Fast Patrol Boats. Another version of the system is in operational use on Finnish Rauma ships and Australian ANZAC craft, for example.

Saab is one of the world's leading high-technology companies with its main operations focusing on defence, aviation, and space. The group covers a broad spectrum of competence and capability in systems integration.
