PHA Delivers Expanded College Internship Program

Program Offers Exposure, Practical Career Experience

HOUSTON, April 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Due to overwhelming response, the Port of Houston Authority (PHA) has expanded its college internship program. The program is open to students who are permanent residents of Harris County, Texas and currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at accredited colleges and universities.

"Our internship program is part of our continuing effort to deliver support to local communities through educational outreach," stated PHA Chairman Jim Edmonds. "We hope the exposure and practical experience that students gain in the various professional job functions at the port authority will help prepare them for the challenges of careers in the maritime industry or other fields of interest."

Internship positions are available for the Summer and Fall 2004 semesters in all PHA divisions, including administration, trade development, facilities, operations, small business development, and public affairs. Housing and transportation are not included. Pre-employment drug screening is mandatory for all selected candidates.

The deadlines for applications have been extended to 5 p.m. on April 23, 2004 for Summer positions and 5 p.m. on August 2, 2004 for Fall positions.
