Kemira and the American TETRA Technologies, Inc. have agreed on looking into ownership arrangements concerning Kemira's calcium chloride business. It is expected that the evaluation will be completed later this summer.
Kemira runs calcium chloride production in Kokkola, Finland, and in Helsingborg, Sweden. Kemira also operates a liquid calcium chloride production unit in Delfzijl, Holland, on a 50/50 joint venture basis with Akzo. Calcium chloride is used e.g. in dust binding and defreezing ice and snow. Major customers are also in the oil drilling and foodstuff industries.
TETRA is the global leader in calcium chloride production. The company's headquarters are in Texas, USA, and the company's main customers are e.g. the oil and energy industry. TETRA has net sales of approx. USD 300 million.
