Central Transport Announces General Rate Increase

WARREN, Mich., June 7, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Central Transport(r) today announced it would implement a general rate increase effective June 19, 2004. The increase, which will average 6.13%, will apply to all of the company's geographic service areas and lanes.

During the past year, Central Transport has continued to invest in its growing terminal network, fleet, human resources, and new technology. The company has focused on competing in the regional and national less-than-truckload sector of the transportation services market through exceptional customer support, competitive pricing, reliable service, and a low cargo claims ratio. A key aspect of Central Transport's growth strategy has been to hold down its costs and pass along savings to its customers. However, that has been particularly challenging under the difficult economic conditions the entire industry faces today and the company has been buffeted by forces outside its control, such as dramatic increases in the cost of insurance, fuel, and homeland security requirements.

In order to maintain the high level of service that customers expect while covering its actual cost increases due to these external factors, Central Transport has found it necessary to make an adjustment in its rates. Effective June 19, 2004, Central Transport will implement a general rate increase of approximately 6.13% in its U.S. Domestic, U.S./Canadian and Canadian Domestic rates published in its GO-CT! (C777B) Tariff. The increases vary by shipping lane and characteristics of the freight. In connection with the general increase, some accessorial charges in Central Transport's 100 Rules Tariff will also be revised for greater clarity and to reflect the most current market conditions. CTII tariffs 555, 585, 595 and 500 have been frozen indefinitely. Customers on these current series CTII tariffs will have their on-bill discount percentages rolled back to reflect an increase of approximately 6.13%. Throughout the year, customers will be converted to the current version of Central Transport's GO-CT! 777B.

Customers can visit Central Transport website at www.centraltransportint.com or contact their sales executive to obtain a CD copy of its new C777B Tariff and Shipment Rating and Direct Service Guide. This software allows customers to generate rate quotes based on their discount, create bills of lading, and access a variety of other useful information, such as direct service points and rules tariffs.
