2004 Hispanic Fiesta, Part of The PECO Energy Multicultural Series, Brings a Weekend of Hispanic Heritage to Penn's Landing


PHILADELPHIA, June 23, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Everyone can celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage during the 25th anniversary of the Hispanic Fiesta at Penn's Landing, part of the PECO Energy Multicultural Series. This FREE Festival will take place at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, on Columbus Boulevard at Chestnut Street on Saturday July 10th and Sunday, July 11th, 2004, from Noon-8:00 p.m. Independence Blue Cross is the presenting sponsor of the 2004 Summer Season at Penn's Landing.

This year, the Hispanic Fiesta will feature two exciting days packed with music, dance, entertainment and authentic Latin American cuisine. Salsa legend Cano Estremera will headline on Sunday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Other artists featured at this year's Fiesta will include salseros Luisito Carrion and Nino Segarra, the Brazilian samba group Batukis, the merengue group KaRu, and bachata artists Rafy Burgos and Arjelis y Su Grupo NV. Batsheva, an Israeli singer will perform Ladino selections. In addition, fourteen year old Mexican dancer Issac Hernandez will also entertain the crowd.

In addition to the music of mariachi, salsa, bachata, merengue, and samba, the Fiesta will showcase artisan crafts and authentic foods from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Colombia, and other parts of Latin America.

This free event, presented by PECO Energy and the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations (Concilio) is one of the many cultural events of the Philadelphia Puerto Rican Festival. This Festival, now in its 42nd year, works to publicize the importance of the Latino culture and the contribution of the Hispanic community to the Philadelphia region.

Admission is free for all PECO Energy Multicultural Series events. PECO Energy presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
