Nokia to bring live music and entertainment to heart of nation's entertainment capital

Nokia Theater Los Angeles to host major music, entertainment and awards events

LOS ANGELES - With the arrival of Nokia Theater Los Angeles, downtown LA will be able to boast a new showcase theater, through a business alliance by Nokia, the world's leader in mobile communications, and AEG, one of the leading sports and entertainment presenters in the world.
The collaboration will bring the 7,000-seat Nokia Theater Los Angeles, plus a live music club and open-air plaza, to the heart of downtown Los Angeles as part of a new Sports and Entertainment District AEG is creating along six city blocks adjacent to STAPLES Center.
The entertainment complex is a major milestone in restoring downtown Los Angeles as a destination center for the best in live music, performance, and as a cultural meeting center.
"As the trends of mobility and entertainment continue to merge, Nokia is focused on dramatically changing the live music and entertainment landscape here in Los Angeles," said Jo Harlow, vice president of marketing for Nokia.  "Nokia Theater Los Angeles will fulfill a largely vacant and underserved niche for premier, mid-size music and entertainment venues that provide an intimate setting for both performers and audiences."
The new entertainment venues allow Nokia an opportunity to integrate mobile technology and cutting-edge entertainment, providing customers with direct access with some of the hottest, most popular names in music and entertainment.  The new venues also will provide a stage and national exposure for up-and-coming artists.
The Nokia venues in Los Angeles' Sports and Entertainment District will include:
  •          Nokia Theater Los Angeles - a premier mid-size theater for concerts, award shows, theatrical productions, Broadway and family shows.
  •          Club Nokia - a 2,200 capacity live music club that will feature new artists and entertainers as well as cultural shows.
  •          Nokia Plaza - a 20,000 square foot open-air plaza that will serve as the district's central meeting place for people attending a convention, music concert or sporting event.  The plaza will serve as one of the district's key anchors, providing a broadcast venue featuring giant LED screens as well as a red carpet site for special events.
  • "AEG is proud to work with Nokia to transform downtown Los Angeles into a lively, energetic destination," said Timothy J. Leiweke, AEG President and CEO.  "Nokia is the ideal company to lend its name to LA's first-ever Sports and Entertainment District and will directly connect residents and visitors with some of the biggest names and must-see entertainment productions."
The Nokia venues will be equipped with advanced technology and broadcast capabilities to meet the newest and latest trends of connecting people through a multiple of mediums, including broadcast, Internet, and wireless services.
"Current and future wireless devices will be used to deliver even more varied forms of recreation, and these Nokia venues in Los Angeles reinforce the connection between Nokia and entertainment," said Jo Harlow.  "The next generation of wireless devices will create a new market for mobile entertainment, allowing users to connect with their favorite artists and events, regardless of location. "
Under the agreement, Nokia will have an opportunity to create unique and prestigious programming at all three venues, including nationally broadcast awards shows.  In addition, Nokia will have prominent naming rights and signage opportunities.
