University of Southern California Honors TAIPEIBANK's Chi-Yuan Lin


LOS ANGELES, Aug. 16, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- The University of Southern California (USC) conferred the distinguished Professor Emeritus title upon former professor Chi-Yuan Lin, presently chairman of TAIPEIBANK in his native Taiwan. Lin served on the faculty of the School of Business Administration, now the USC Marshall School of Business, for nearly 20 years between 1968-1987.

Henceforth, Lin will add USC Professor Emeritus of Information and Operations Management to his many honors, said USC Provost Lloyd Armstrong, Jr.

"The Marshall School recommended Dr. Lin for the title and I am pleased to approve this request," said Armstrong. "The faculty are recognizing one of their own for his accomplishments as an educator. Chi-Yuan's long service and outstanding contributions to the School and the University are much appreciated."

In addition to teaching and research, Lin held various administrative positions during his tenure at USC, including Director of the Doctoral Program, Department Chair and the University Faculty Senate. He also served as a legislator for the Republic of China, representing Chinese nationals abroad between 1981-87.

Lin received the USC Award for Teaching Excellence in 1970 and was named Outstanding Educator of America in 1973. He holds a BA in Business Administration from the National Taiwan University and earned a MS and PhD in management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1987, Lin accepted the presidency of the National Sun Yat-sen University, which he held for nine years. He went on to serve as Chairman of the Civil Service Protection and Training Commission (CSPTC) and a Chair Professor of Management at the Chung-Yuan Christian University.

Lin has been the Chairman of the TAIPEIBANK since June 2001. It is a private bank, in which the Taipei City Government is the major shareholder, owning about 44% of the stock. The Bank's total capital is NT $22.3 billion, the net worth is NT $46 billion and the total asset is NT $731.5 billion.
