The contract is for the new section of the A-73 South through the municipalities of Venlo (Belfeld), Beesel, Swalmen and Roermond in Limburg. The project was won following a European tendering procedure. The contract comprises both the design (based on performance requirements) and the construction of the road and the corresponding viaducts and other structural works.
Heijmans will carry out the work independently. Heijmans Wegenbouw (road construction) and Heijmans Beton- en Waterbouw (concrete and hydraulic engineering), both part of the Heijmans Infrastructure division, will make use of the specific knowledge and experience of Infratech and Van Kleef (design and engineering services), Heijmans Verkeerstechniek (traffic technology) and Heijmans Technische Infra (technical infrastructure) in the development of the project.
The contract for constructing the new section of the A-73 fits in well with Heijmans' strategy of carrying out contracts as full service projects, in other words, from design to completion. This forward integration is possible because Heijmans Infrastructure has raw material positions and specialist operating companies for all the phases of the process of constructing infrastructure contracts.
