A Variety of Tales for Young Readers -- New Book Offers Lessons for Life in Creative Stories

CAMBRIA HEIGHTS, N.Y., December 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- In eight short stories for young readers, Bessie Frazier offers captivating tales and lessons for life. Entertaining Stories (now available through AuthorHouse) is a collection that challenges readers while drawing them into each piece of fiction.

Frazier's stories vary widely, but each one offers important values for living. In the opening work, "The Stone King," the title character is a ruthless villain until a sudden occurrence changes his life forever. In two other tales, a young boy named Victor learns how harmful telling lies can be, and a frightened boy named Joseph overcomes the paralyzing fears he faces in his dreams with the help of his mother's gift.

The stories continue with "The Onion," which follows a young girl who does a favor for her mother but learns the hard way that stealing is wrong. In "The Lavender Dress," a nice gesture by an employer and friend helps one woman experience both the time of her life and an act of generosity. Readers also learn how one young man finds confidence, thanks to his father's arm wrestling challenges.

Frazier is a middle school teacher in Brooklyn, N.Y. She received bachelor's degrees in English and sociology from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., and her master's degree in education from Montclair State College. Frazier is also the author of Exciting Stories and Plays (Vantage), Climb That Barbed Wire Fence (Sterling), and Poems, Short Stories, and Plays For Youth (Exposition). She has won writing awards and has been published in several anthologies.
