Old Moo & I -- Author Recounts Memories of the Great Depression, World War II Era

MARYSVILLE, Wash., Dec. 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Take a trip back to a simpler time when all people needed was family and neighbors to survive. Times may have been tough, but it sure was fun according to Daniel A. McDougall's new memoir, Old Moo & I: 1940s Nostalgia (now available through AuthorHouse).

McDougall tells his story of growing up during the 1930s and '40s. With passion and good humor, he shares a lot of memories about himself and his family. Born and raised in the Wenatchee and Okanogan Valleys of Washington state, McDougall spent his childhood working on the farms and apple orchards of this area near the Canadian border.

Told through McDougall's "down home language," the book invites readers to stroll back into the past where moments of his childhood, given new life by fresh words, live again. Throughout 296 pages, he carries readers through times shared with family and adventures encountered with friends. Of course, there is eternally the "beautiful cow," Old Moo, who helped teach him about responsibility, and eventually filled his stomach after she was butchered. Anyone who lived during those times will surely be able to relate, and those who do not remember may be able to conjure the carefree feelings of summer or rushing through chores to go swimming.

A quick, humorous read, Old Moo & I is a nostalgic glimpse at the times that shaped this generation into "the greatest."

McDougall married in 1948, and he and his wife Elizabeth moved to Seattle shortly after. He worked for a large construction company for 30 years before retiring as senior vice president in 1989. Old Moo & I is his first book.
