Jaakko Pöyry Group provides engineering services for CHP plant based on renewable energy sources at UPM's Chapelle Darblay mill

UPM will construct a combined heat and power plant based on renewable energy sources for its Chapelle Darblay paper mill in France. Continuing its long cooperation with the Jaakko Pöyry Group, UPM has commissioned Electrowatt-Ekono Oy, which is a part of the Group's Energy business group, to provide engineering for the power plant.

The CHP plant is biofuel and sludge fired, having an electrical output of some 20 MW and some 85 MW of thermal output. The CHP plant comprises a new fuel handling system, fluidized bed boiler, a back-pressure steam turbine and other auxiliary systems. Electrowatt-Ekono Oy has been assigned to carry out the complete basic and implementation engineering of the CHP plant including procurement services.

The assignment further strengthens Electrowatt-Ekono's strategy to be a leading engineer and consultant in bioenergy, combined heat and power and forest industry energy projects.

The Energy business group, operating under the brand name Electrowatt-Ekono, had net sales of EUR 146 million in 2004. Electrowatt-Ekono has offices in 22 countries and employs 1500 experts worldwide.
