Net Insight Introduces First High-Capacity NG-SDH/SONET Switch with Sub Lower-Order Granularity

With carrier class performance combined with drastically reduced costs, Nimbra 680 is targeted at meeting the rigorous 100% QoS demands of media and triple-play networks and opening up new revenue-generating service opportunities over metropolitan and core networks. Its 320 Gbps chassis can be equipped in various configurations, including redundant 40 or 80 Gbps bi-directional switch planes. Moreover, Nimbra 680 is the only high-capacity switch on the market with sub lower-order granularity for all services including Ethernet.

The automatic optical control plane featured by the NimOS software enables both unicast and multicast services to be provisioned in a one step process, as well as easy network expansion. The internal non-hierarchical switch plane with 0.5 Mbps granularity can be extended across the network via SDH/SONET interfaces to achieve 95+ % network utilization and maximum flexibility. Nimbra 680 also provides full carrier class features including full redundancy for switch planes, power supply, node controllers, and control paths.

"Nimbra 680 is a ground breaking multiservice switch", said Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight. "By combining high capacity, the lowest cost per bit transport and guaranteed 100% QoS, Nimbra 680 provides an economical solution for service providers looking to provide advanced video, voice and data services demanded by today's market."

Nimbra 680 is fully compatible with the Nimbra One/340 series of multiservice edge and access switches, and provides an operator with a set of network switching options to meet its unique needs. Existing Nimbra platform users can take advantage of Nimbra 680 to economically scale their networks.
