NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Feb. 28, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has announced two executive-level appointments within its Newport News sector. Rolf Bartschi has been promoted to sector vice president and chief nuclear engineer, waterfront nuclear engineering and test, and Danny Hunley has been promoted to sector vice president, trades, education and training.

As sector vice president and chief nuclear engineer, waterfront nuclear engineering and test, Bartschi will be responsible for nuclear engineering services and test engineering programs at Newport News. He began his career with the sector in 1981 as a test engineer in the fast attack submarine new construction program and has held a number of positions, including engineering manager of nuclear test for submarine new construction, nuclear construction superintendent of new construction carriers, and director of nuclear services and testing. He most recently served as director of waterfront nuclear engineering and test and chief nuclear engineer.
"Rolf brings experience, expertise and leadership to the nuclear aspects of our business, a critical component in satisfying our U.S. Navy customer," said Mike Petters, president of Northrop Grumman Newport News.
Bartschi earned a bachelor's degree in ocean engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology and is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Danny Hunley, who most recently served as director for trades, education and training, began his career at Newport News as a welder in 1974. As sector vice president, trades, education and training, he will be responsible for the sector's apprentice school, instructional design, and production and maintenance training, and will lead more than 7,500 production trades employees.
"Danny's leadership of our trades employees and their training is an important part of our business focus today and for the future. We must continue our tradition of providing a highly-skilled workforce to build our nation's submarines and carriers, and Danny will be instrumental to our success in this endeavor," Petters said.
A graduate of the Newport News Apprentice School, Hunley also earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Leo College. He is a member of the American Welding Society and he serves on the board of directors of Westville Christian Church and the Peninsula Alliance for Economic Development.
