Ocean of Blue Tears -- Author Strips Away Romantic Image of Life on the High Seas

NEW PALTZ, N.Y., March 2, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- A sailor's life is often idealized in songs and books across the globe, but many people really have no idea what it means to be adrift upon the crystal blue waters of the sea. Prince A. Gordon rides the tide of his real-life experiences to bring ashore his insightful autobiography, Ocean of Blue Tears: A World of the Untold (now available through AuthorHouse).

From a little island in the Caribbean Sea known as Jamaica, Gordon left the poverty surrounding him for the prosperity that shone upon the aqua waves of the ocean. In the early 1980s, he became a seaman, a sailor with no nation to call home. He worked with men from many different countries and sailed to more than 25 ports halfway around the world. In search of opportunity and experience, he navigated the waters from the Pacific to the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic. The things he witnessed were glorious but also demented as the rolling sea and gusting winds revealed the true nature of humanity.

"In this living there are dead. I have seen no care for the perishing. I have looked behind the flesh of man ... and recognized that the soul of those who are crippled is caused by excessive evil sources of drugs," Gordon says. "I have recognized ... that partiality and hate sit in the laps of fools."

Ocean of Blue Tears takes readers into ports unknown where wayward sailors lost from the kindness of the world become caught in a whirlpool of alcohol, drugs, gambling and prostitution. Gordon offers engaging true stories of the events and people he encountered on the high seas. Stripping away the romantic image of a sailor, he exposes the barnacles of society hiding beneath the surface and the people who become caught in the undertow of corruption.

Based on the wisdom he gained from the tides, Ocean of Blue Tears carefully guides readers through a world of the untold and unknown.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Gordon was unable to find work as a waiter in the wealthy tourist resorts because they preferred European employees. Instead, he became a seaman and now lives in New York. Ocean of Blue Tears is his first book.
