In town for the city's annual Let Freedom Ring(tm) ceremony, the USS Cole, a ship rich in tradition and known for surviving the terrorist attack of October 2000, will arrive in town on June 30 so that Commander Brian Solo and his crew members can prepare for public tours taking place over the holiday weekend. BACKGROUND The USS Cole is 587 ft. long with a crew of 365 and homeport of Norfolk, Virginia. The ship's official motto is "GLORY IS THE REWARD OF VALOR" USS COLE (DDG 67) is the first warship named for Sergeant Darrell S. Cole, USMC (1920-1945).
