Leica Geosystems Launches Complete Lineup of New Laser Tracker Systems

Improved Tracker Accuracy and Extended Measurement Range Ideally Suited for Wide Array of Industrial Applications

UNTERENTFELDEN, Switzerland, Oct. 31, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Metrology Division of Leica Geosystems announced today the immediate availability of a new lineup of Leica Laser Trackers with class-leading accuracy, unmatched dependability, and a slew of new and improved features.

The new lineup starts with the LT640 Leica Laser Tracker, optimized for corner cube reflector inspection within a measurement volume of up to 40 meters (131 ft). LTD640 is LT640's Absolute Distance Meter sibling, whose ADM technology allows for reliable automatic beam capture resulting in faster measurement processes.

LTD706, Leica Geosystems' short-range laser tracker, is intended for Portable CMM jobs within a measurement radius of 6 meters (20 ft) with the Leica T-Probe and Leica T-Scan, as well as with a corner cube reflector.

LTD709 was tailor-made to match the needs of customers in the automotive industry, offering a measurement radius of up to 9 meters (30 ft) with PCMM applications, an increase of 25 percent over the model it replaces. At the same time, LTD709 boasts a measurement volume of 25 meters (82 ft) when used with a corner cube reflector.

LTD840 is the undisputed touchstone for aerospace PCMM applications, with a probing measurement range of up to 15 meters (49 ft), which translates into a measurement volume of up to 30 meter (98 ft) when used with a Leica T-Probe, enabling manufacturers to conduct demanding wireless probing of very large parts with just one setup. Plus, LTD840's measurement range reaches a full 40 meters (131 ft) when used with a corner cube reflector.

Leica T-Probe II, the second version of Leica Geosystems' "Walk-Around" solution for armless and wireless probing, is also being released. Leica T-Probe II highlights include improved accuracy, a ten-fold increase in the point rate output, and user-assignable multi-function buttons.

Leica T-Scan continues being the only technically mature, fully developed high-speed hand scanner on the PCMM market and carries a number of evolutionary refinements to its hardware and ergonomics.

"With the launch of our new lineup of Leica Laser Trackers and the continued development of Leica T-Probe and Leica T-Scan, we have actively responded to the needs of our customers, giving them a broad choice in selecting a laser tracking system appropriate for their applications," says Daniel Moser, Product Manager, Metrology Division. "For example, we now offer a laser tracker whose design is a direct result of honoring the wishes of our automotive sector customers. The emphasis with the entire Leica Laser Tracker system is on the word 'system' because our Portable CMM products seamlessly integrate into the Leica Laser Tracker solution. In focusing our attention on our users, we have not only covered both ends of the requirements spectrum, but everything else in-between as well."

The new lineup of industrial metrology products from Leica Geosystems will be on full display at the upcoming Euromold Show in Frankfurt, Germany between November 30 and December 3, 2005.
