PHOENIX, Dec. 8, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Former Toledo, Ohio business owner and civic leader turned Phoenix-area entrepreneur Tom M. Herman, has been elected to the Arizona State University School of Business Hall of Fame. Herman also announced he will open his second and third Marco's Pizza Stores in Gilbert and Chandler in January.
Herman, who moved to Arizona earlier this year to open 30 Marco's Pizza stores in the greater Phoenix area, is a 1983 graduate of ASU. He was named to the ASU Alumni Chapter of the W.P. Carey School of Business Hall of Fame for significant contributions to business, the community and the school.
Herman introduced Phoenix to Marco's Pizza earlier this year. Founded 27 years ago in Toledo by Pasquale "Pat" Giammarco who remains with the organization today in concept development and as a storeowner. Marco's Pizza has 145 stores in Arizona, Nevada, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.
Marco's Pizza offers customers a variety of custom made Ah-thentic Italian Pizzas, fresh baked subs, chicken wings, salads and soft drinks.
Herman, who founded The Image Group, a Toledo promotional advertising company, was also active in civic affairs in Northwest Ohio. He was past president of the Toledo Area Small Business Association and past chairman of the Lucas County Workforce Investment Board. He was appointed by Ohio Gov. Taft to serve on the State of Ohio Governor's Workforce Policy Board. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce, The Leadership Fund, Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation and the Lucas County Workforce Investment Board.
Jack Butorac, Jr., Marco's Franchising LLC president, acquired the franchising rights to Marco's Pizza last year from Giammarco. Butorac said the announcement of the Phoenix expansion is an integral step in the Marco's Pizza growth plans to reach 400 stores by 2009.
