Agfa appoints Jonathan Elion as Chief Medical Officer

Agfa-Gevaert has announced that Jonathan Elion MD has been appointed Chief Medical Officer for Agfa's HealthCare business group, a new position created to provide clinical insight and strategic direction for the company's growing medical division.

Most recently, Dr. Elion has been the Medical Director and Co-Founder (1994) of Heartlab, and has a long distinguished career in Clinical Cardiology, Medical Computing and business. Heartlab was acquired by Agfa in June of 2005 as part of the company's strategy to expand their enterprise solutions for healthcare.

As Medical Director of Heartlab, Dr. Elion has been a pioneer in the creation of industry-wide standards and the development of products that improve the clinical management of cardiovascular disease. He is an industry leader in the development and application of technology standards in cardiology, and is recognized for his leadership role in initiatives that promote the integration of the healthcare enterprise, such as the Radiological Society of North America, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the IHE initiative sponsored by the American College of Cardiology. Author of numerous papers, abstracts and book chapters on various aspects of clinical cardiology and on computer applications in medicine, Elion speaks world-wide on these topics.
