`Gospelfest for Reconciliation 2006' at Marygrove College, February 11

DETROIT, Jan. 23, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- "Gospelfest for Reconciliation 2006," sponsored in part by the Marygrove College Music Department, will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2006, in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Marygrove College.

In its 15th year, Gospelfest 2006 will consist of an all-day workshop with hands-on experience performing new and old gospel music. During the day, a mass choir will learn the repertoire taught by several conductors. A registration fee of $20 (after January 27, $30) includes music packs and dinner. A $10 fee will be assessed for the t-shirt that is to be worn during the day and at the evening public performance, which culminates the event.

Conductors this year include Gospelfest Founder and Artistic Director Dr. Stephen Newby; Dr. Geoff Stanton of the Marygrove faculty; Hazel Martin, an Ann Arbor freelance conductor and ordained Baptist minister; Saline choir director Jean Wilson; and Felicia Kemp, music director at a Baptist church in Detroit. Performers in the evening program include Rev. Elmo Hughes of Messiah Baptist Church; Anthony McGlaun of the Marygrove faculty; the Antioch Choir of Seattle, WA; and Dr. JoAnn Clark, Marygrove faculty and minister of organ at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit.

"This is an exhilarating experience guaranteed to lift your spirits!" said Dr. Geoff Stanton of Marygrove. "The mass choir has averaged around 200 singers in the past years. All different faiths will be represented. While gospel music is the featured genre, Gospelfest attracts all faith traditions and ethnic and racial backgrounds. Lots of people like gospel music," he said.

The agenda for the day is as follows:

      Registration starts at 10:00 a.m.
      Rehearsals start at 11 a.m.
      Dinner at 5:30 p.m.
