Airvana Exceeds $100M in Annual Revenue and Achieves 8 Consecutive Quarters of Profitability

Large Scale Deployment of 1xEV-DO Mobile Broadband Networks Fuels Company's Growth

CHELMSFORD, Ma., Feb. 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvana.com), an innovator and leader in mobile broadband infrastructure based on 3G 1xEV-DO air interface technology, today announced that its full year 2005 revenues surpassed $100 million, marking eight consecutive profitable quarters. In these eight quarters, Airvana quadrupled its workforce. The company is cash flow positive.

"Airvana continues to deliver excellent results," said Jeffrey Glidden, CFO of Airvana. "Our growth not only validates our products in the markets we serve, but our ability to execute on our business plan to deliver superior 1xEV-DO mobile broadband solutions."

Airvana builds mobile broadband radio access network (RAN) infrastructure for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. 1xEV-DO is a leading third-generation wireless standard that provides broadband connectivity to over 21 million phones and personal computers around the globe. 1xEV-DO is the most widely deployed mobile broadband technology in the United States, with coverage in over 180 metropolitan areas. Consumers in the United States can chose from over 30 devices, including phones, handsets, PC cards, and laptops with embedded EV-DO modems.

Airvana is a market and technology leader in EV-DO RAN infrastructure. Its technology powers 16 of the world's most dynamic 1xEV-DO networks, on six continents. Airvana's 1xEV-DO infrastructure is based on its unique IP-RAN architecture that delivers carrier-grade mobility, scalability and reliability, and is optimized for mobile broadband multimedia.

Airvana is staying at the forefront of 1xEV-DO with its strong commitment to the next version of 1xEV-DO, called 1xEV-DO Revision A. Revision A will not only support high-speed data, but also high-capacity voice-over-IP, packet video telephony, packet-based push-to-talk and multicast. Airvana was first to publicly demonstrate 1xEV-DO Revision A with its partner, Nortel Networks, at the CDMA Americas Congress in September 2005.

Airvana is now applying its market-leading 1xEV-DO technology to develop an Air-to-ground (ATG) communications system in partnership with industry leaders such as Verizon Airfone. The Airvana EV-DO ATG system delivers an average throughput of 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps to each aircraft. Inside the aircraft cabin, this broadband connection can be shared using WiFi, allowing passengers broadband access the Internet, corporate Intranets and voice calls using Voice over IP (VoIP).

"EV-DO's popularity is on a steep ascent," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDMA Development Group (CDG). "Airvana's commitment to the technology is testament to EV-DO's vast and demonstrated potential to provide high performance for subscribers and strong revenue for operators."

"Airvana is focused on enabling mobile broadband everywhere," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana, "Airvana strongly believes that All-IP packet networks are the best way to deliver all telecom services, including voice. With its success in 1xEV-DO, Airvana has proven its ability to deliver on this vision through innovation and strong execution."
