DBS Discbox Slider now in DVD size
Stora Enso is introducing an exciting new type of pack for DVD discs. The new DVD version of the popular DBS Discbox Slider case is made exclusively from paperboard and can accommodate three discs and a booklet. The cases are produced and filled automatically on state-of-the-art modular packaging machine.
"The DBS DVD case is a revolutionary new type of package for media businesses in which DVD is the prevailing format, such as movies, games, photos and software. To date, no single package type dominates the DVD segment and there is clearly a need for a novel solution like the DBS DVD, which is the first case made exclusively from paperboard," says Osmo Jahkola, Director of Stora Enso Media Solutions.
Today, Stora Enso's DBS Discbox Slider product family provides distinct options for CDs and DVDs. Fulfilment service is provided by Stora Enso Media Solutions. The complete service concept includes offset printing, converting and filling of DBS cases.
Superb visual appearance
"Paperboard is an economical, practical and attractive media-packaging material. The DBS cases offer an extensive printing area, which increases when the case is opened. This means that you can extend your visual concept right down to the inner sleeve thus making the disc cases even more attractive. Booklets fit both the DBS models, and the DBS DVD case can accommodate a booklet with a thickness of up to 5 mm," Jahkola adds.
The lightweight DBS cases fit easily into existing storage displays and provide significant savings in terms of material and transportation costs. Based on renewable raw material, paperboards from Stora Enso are an attractive and environmentally compatible media packaging material. Paperboard is durable and does not crack like plastic; it also provides excellent protection against sunlight, which is harmful to optical discs.
New fully automated packaging system
Production of DBS cases is based on automated state-of-the-art packaging machines. For the DBS DVD case, Stora Enso has developed a new fully automatic DBS FF-80 packaging system, which ensures cost-effective, easy and trouble-free production at competitive speed. The modular machine consists of a continuously flowing line for folding and transporting the package blanks, three product feeder robots and a booklet feeder, hot melt gluing and a combiner module unit.
