RIDGEWOOD, N.J., June 6, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Unless gasoline prices spiral above $3, experts say about 85 percent of Americans will hit the highways on vacation this summer. "High gas prices affect your daily pocketbook and daily budget more than people's vacation plans," says the Travel Industry Association.
But surviving the trip in style, while still curbing costs to cover higher gasoline prices, takes planning. Automotive expert (and Mom) Lauren Fix has some advice.
Travelers may want to find hotels that include a free breakfast or skip high-priced cities like New York in favor of smaller cities with lower prices. But since the point of the vacation is fun, the whole family will still want a trip that's worry-free with lots of on-the-road activities for the kids.
Fix is well equipped to provide the tips for surviving the journey in good spirits. She has written articles for magazines ranging from Motor Trend to Good Housekeeping and Self. She is also the spokesperson for "Be Car Care Aware," a consumer education campaign promoting the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair.
