The Omega Ensemble Honors Classical Music Radio Personality Robert Sherman at Valentine Benefit

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 29, 2007 -- The Omega Ensemble, www.omegaensemble.com, a
non-profit chamber music group whose mission is to introduce outstanding
young artists to the public, hosts a Valentine Benefit in honor of noted
classical music personality Robert Sherman on Monday, February 12th, 2007
from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at The Racquet & Tennis Club at 370 Park Avenue at
53rd Street.
Omega Honoree Robert Sherman is a broadcaster, writer, teacher and radio
personality best known for his work at WQXR-FM Radio (96.3) and AM (1560)
where he presided over the "The Listening Room" for 23 years. "The Omega
Ensemble has introduced New York to many extraordinarily talented
musicians," said Robert Sherman. "I am proud to be honored by an
organization that is devoted to recognizing and celebrating promising young
artists." Robert Sherman will serve as master of ceremonies for the
Valentine Benefit.
The Valentine Benefit will include repertoire by Schubert, Schumann,
Cassado, Heuberger-Kreisler, Sarasate and Edwin Finckel. Featured artists
include Christina Castelli, a violinist who was named a Presidential
Scholar in the Arts, receiving a gold medallion from President Clinton in
1996; Denise Dejokic, a cellist from Toronto whose debut recording on Sony
Classical won her an East Coast award for "Best Classical Recording of the
Year"; Jean Kopperud, a clarinetist and member of Omega since 1981, who
also performs with the New York New Music Ensemble, the ISCM Ensemble and
is a faculty member at the Juilliard School; and Doris Konig, pianist and
founding member of the Omega Ensemble.
