NASDAQ Announces March Market Performance Statistics

Total Matched Volume in All U.S. Equity Securities Reached a Record High 36 Billion Shares


NEW YORK, April 12, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (Nasdaq(r):NDAQ) today announced its consolidated market performance statistics for the NASDAQ Market Center for the month of March.

NASDAQ's matched market share in all U.S. equity securities rose to a record high 28.8% in March. Total matched volume in all U.S. equity securities increased to a record high 36.2 billion shares in March from 28.1 billion in February and 29.9 billion one year ago. Total U.S. equity market share was 50.5% compared to 51.7% last month and 49.6% in March 2006.

NASDAQ's matched market share in NYSE-listed securities increased to 15.9% in March from 14.5% in February and 7.7% in March 2006. NASDAQ's touched market share in NYSE-listed securities rose to 37.6% in March from 33.9% in February and 19.7% March 2006. During March 2007, NASDAQ's average daily total share volume in NYSE-listed securities increased to approximately 1.1 billion from 954 million in February and 519 million in March 2006.

NASDAQ's total market share in NYSE-listed securities in March grew to 34.2% from 33.3% in February and 22.7% in March 2006. Included in the total market share figure for March is 18.3% in NYSE-listed securities executed by broker-dealers and reported to the NASD/NASDAQ Trade Reporting Facility (TRF), a facility of NASD that is operated by NASDAQ.

Total market share in NASDAQ-listed securities was 74.5% in March compared to 76.0% in February. Included in the total market share figure for March is 26.7% in NASDAQ securities executed by broker-dealers and reported to the NASD/NASDAQ Trade Reporting Facility (TRF) compared to 32.2% in February. During March 2007, average daily total share volume in NASDAQ-listed securities was approximately 1.5 billion compared to 1.7 billion in February and 1.7 billion in March 2006.

Matched market share in NASDAQ-listed securities in March increased to 47.7% from 43.8% in February. NASDAQ's touched market share in NASDAQ-listed securities in March rose to 51.9% from 48.1% the previous month.

"Total market share" in NASDAQ-listed securities or NYSE-listed securities is based on all share volume reported to the consolidated tape using NASDAQ-operated systems. This includes total share volume of NASDAQ-listed securities or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on The NASDAQ Stock Market LLC, NASDAQ's national securities exchange, plus trades reported through the NASD/NASDAQ Trade Reporting Facility (TRF) as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ market volume. Shares routed to other market centers for execution are not included in "total market share." This data is single counted.

"Total market share" in all U.S. Equity securities is based on total share volume of NASDAQ-, NYSE-, Amex-, and regional exchange-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, plus trade reported volume as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ-, NYSE-, Amex-, and regional exchange-listed market volume.

"Matched market share" represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center as a percentage of total consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume.

"Touched market share" represents total share volume of NASDAQ or NYSE-listed securities that are executed on the NASDAQ Market Center, plus volume of shares routed to other market centers for execution as a percentage of consolidated NASDAQ or NYSE market volume.
