DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - June 21, 2007) - NewsGator Technologies, Inc., the leading RSS platform company, today
announced that Discovery Channel will deploy NewsGator's
Widget Framework to promote the 20th anniversary of SHARK WEEK,
offering a collection of content including Discovery News and special
interactive features such as a virtual ocean deep sea dive, video mixer,
map and quiz, beginning Friday, June 22.
With NewsGator, Discovery can now present topical, relevant information,
news, videos and photos organized within a dynamic widget.
Powered by NewsGator's Widget Framework, these "Shark Week Widgets" offer
online readers a wide array of information and news content, while also
inviting consumers to host "Shark Week Widgets" on their own personal Web
sites and blogs.
SHARK WEEK, cable television's longest-running programming event and the
ultimate in summertime television, is turning 20 this summer. Hosted by
"Survivorman" Les Stroud, SHARK WEEK's 20th Anniversary will fill Discovery
Channel's total day schedule from Sunday, July 29, through Saturday, August
4, from 9 AM to 3 AM (ET/PT) each day -- adding up to over 130 hours of
shark programs devoted to the behavior of one of the most mysterious and
majestic creatures on the planet. Also to be featured is a
programmed-by-you Viewer's Choice hour at 8 PM, and eight all-new primetime
specials at 9 PM.
"Audiences today want to choose how they consume and interact with
information, whether that be news, entertainment or blogs," said Jane Root,
president and general manager, Discovery Channel and Science Channel.
"Integrating NewsGator's Syndication
Services into our online network allows Discovery fans to engage with
Shark Week content from their own personalized Web sites, blogs and
desktops, while staying connected to the Discovery brand.
"Publishers of online content are beginning to realize the importance of
giving their audience more choices and making it easy for them to consume
content based on their specific interests and tastes," said J.B. Holston,
president and CEO of NewsGator. "Relying on NewsGator's RSS platform offers Discovery a way to
expand the reach of its content by giving online viewers a chance to
experience the world through multiple sources, while keeping its audience
within the Discovery brand."
The first deployment of NewsGator's Widget Framework, featured on the
Discovery Channel blog, EVEREST: BEYOND THE LIMIT,
gave fans of the program the latest news and photos about this past
season's Mount Everest expedition as reported by climber Greg Child.
