Fortis receives positive opinion from Works Council in the Netherlands

Fortis Bank Netherlands' Works Council today issued a positive opinion - with the support of the other Fortis works councils in the Netherlands - on the first formal step in the ABN AMRO offer process.

The Works Council based its opinion on intensive discussions with the other Fortis works councils in the Netherlands and with Members of the Board of Fortis Bank Netherlands and of the Fortis Executive Committee. Its formal opinion sets out its views on the proposed offer,  which has been announced on 29 May 2007.

The Works Council's opinion also defines how it will be involved in this ongoing process and in how Fortis will deal with the consequences of the acquisition for personnel.
