Mr. Varney will address economic issues and also moderate a panel of bankers who will discuss what they see on the horizon for banking in their state. He will moderate a panel of experts who are using innovative technology in the financial industry. Capital Communities. FHLB Des Moines recognizes its 2007 Capital Communities: Decorah, IA; Mahnomen, MN; Brookfield, MO; Ashley, ND; and Platte, SD. Representatives from each community will attend the conference and receive a $15,000 cash award. Communities with less than 10,000 in population are chosen for the award based on growth and development efforts, outcomes and involvement by a FHLB Des Moines member. Through vision, planning and teamwork, these communities have been able to revitalize or sustain their local economies.
