World's Largest Outdoor Merchandise Retailer Chooses Cisco to Deliver Optimized Customer Experience

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - January 15, 2008) - National Retail Federation Conference, Booth
2328 - Cisco® (NASDAQ : CSCO ) today announced that Cabela's, the world's
largest direct marketer and a leading specialty retailer of hunting,
fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise, has selected Cisco
solutions to protect customer information contained in store systems and to
simplify operations, reduce costs, increase flexibility and increase the
amount of time employees can spend with customers.
Cabela's has chosen Cisco's PCI Solution and Lean Retail Architecture for
its newest retail destination in Lacey, Wash.
The new Cabela's destination opened in November 2007 and features a host of
Cisco technology including wireless Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP),
wireless local-area network (WLAN) infrastructures and additional products
from Cisco's Intelligent Retail Network solutions suite. The Cisco
Intelligent Retail Network, already deployed in 20 other Cabela's stores by
Cisco Gold Partner MSN Communications, Inc., has provided Cabela's with a
single, centrally managed network to make data integration across functions
and channels more consistent and efficient. MSN works strategically with
Cabela's and Cisco on each new store's network design, staging each
location's network in the MSN lab prior to deployment on site. Once on
site, MSN and Cisco have worked side by side with Cabela's to deliver the
best customer experience through the use of this scalable technology by
further streamlining retail operations.
Announced at the National Retail Federation's annual conference, Cisco's
Lean Retail Architecture allows retailers to save on operating and capital
expenses by reducing information technology (IT) complexity in the store
environment through data center consolidation. By pulling applications and
servers out of stores and moving them into a centralized data center,
Cabela's expects to see data efficiency gains of up to 30 percent, as well
as up to 70 percent greater data storage efficiency through server and
storage virtualization. As Cabela's continues to grow and expand, the Lean
Retail Architecture efficiencies decrease the need to purchase additional
servers and storage.
The Cisco Intelligent Retail Network supports and facilitates the sharing
of verbal, visual and written information using intelligent IP applications
that accelerate the flow of information within the store environment.
Cabela's employees are able to access the people and information they need
quickly and easily using Cisco Unified IP phones, allowing them to provide
customers with better service.
"Excellent customer service is of utmost importance and a huge
differentiator for Cabela's," said Jon Crowe, director of enterprise
technology services at Cabela's. "As Cabela's retail operations continue to
expand, Cisco has provided us with a scalable centrally managed retail
technology platform that allows us to streamline store operations and focus
more on addressing customer needs."
Cabela's also tapped Cisco to improve data security across the network as
technology and data usage in the retail environment is becoming
increasingly complex. The Cisco PCI Solution for Retail is a set of
recommended and audited network architectures that was tailored to meet
Cabela's specific store footprint and application needs. PCI compliance as
mandated by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard protects
customer privacy, as well as payment card and merchant data.
By taking advantage of the Cisco PCI Solution for Retail, Cabela's can
offer shoppers an optimized end-to-end and highly secure store and online
shopping experience. In addition, the solution allows for consistent
security capabilities for administration, manageability, scalability and
reliability.
The Cisco Intelligent Retail Network solutions suite comprises Cisco
foundation technologies, including routing and switching, and Cisco
advanced technologies such as wireless, telephony and security product
features. The solutions are specifically designed by Cisco to help the
retail industry meet business-critical objectives and maximize the
effectiveness of the network for increased productivity and an enhanced
customer shopping experience.
