Yara International ASA announced today the company's intension to expand Siilinjärvi phosphate rock mining. At phase one capacity will be increased by 150 000 tons of rock per year to 1 000 000 tons, when today the annual capacity of Siilinjärvi is 850 000 tons of rock per year. This increase can be achieved with the modification of the existing grinding and flotation. The expansion is expected to be operational during the second half of the year 2009. The second phase is planned for years 2010-2011. The potential capacity increase is planned to be 300 000 tons of rock per year raising the total capacity to 1.3 million tons per year. If phase two is carried out it means also investments for new crushers, grinding and flotation. Yara announced also that the Sokli feasibility study has been started. Sokli is separate project from the Siilinjärvi expansion projects. Yara has announced earlier that the company is interested in opening the Sokli mine in the Finnish Lapland if a commercially sustainable means of implementation will be found.
