HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - September 17, 2008) - Energistics, the upstream oil and gas open
standards consortium, announced today that David Latin, Vice President, E&P
Technology, BP, was elected as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Latin succeeds
Mike Benjamin of Schlumberger who held the chairmanship for the last
fifteen months and was a significant force for the reemergence of
Energistics as a leading industry facilitator of collaborative
technologies. Also elected as Vice-Chair was Mark Greene, an Executive
Partner, Accenture. Mr. Greene succeeds Tom Halbouty of Pioneer Natural
Resources who was Vice-Chair for over two years, but will continue on as a
member of the Energistics board.
David Latin currently has global responsibility for BP's
fieldofthefuture® Programme, an endeavor with a specific focus on
projects and workflows that deliver high value from visualization and
analysis of real-time and near real-time data to manage and optimize
performance of BP's hydrocarbon assets and systems. His executive
leadership and operational management skills have been built on strong
scientific and technical foundations in the Earth Sciences. Completing his
Geology and Geophysics PhD in 1990, in 1993 Dave made the transition from
post doctoral research at Cambridge University, to a "hands-on" Geologist
and then Reservoir Engineer in BP. Dave has worked across the entire value
chain from frontier exploration in Vietnam, through implementation of new
developments and operations of producing assets in the North Sea, to
reactivation of mature fields in Venezuela. Until recently he was head of
IT for BP Exploration & Production.
"Dave Latin brings a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise to the
Chairmanship," said Randy Clark, President and CEO, Energistics. "With his
current leadership assignment for BP in their fieldofthefuture® effort
Dave is perfectly placed to assist the industry in building data exchange
standards into the strategic thinking of upstream organizations through
Energistics."
Elected as Vice-Chair, Mark Greene is an Executive Partner in Accenture's
Resources-Energy Consulting practice. Since joining Accenture in 1998, he
has led projects in the exploration & production and midstream segments of
the oil & gas industry at super-major, international, and mid-tier clients,
with an emphasis in operations, drilling, supply chain, and performance
management. In 2005, he took on his current role as client director of one
of Accenture's largest Resource clients, with responsibility for the global
exploration and production segment. Before joining Accenture, Mark worked
with Petrofina (now part of Total) and Conoco (now part of ConocoPhillips)
in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Canada. Over a span of 15 years,
he held positions in portfolio/asset management, petroleum engineering,
drilling, capital project management, and acquisitions/divestitures.
"Mark Greene has been an integral part of our strategic standardization
efforts at Energistics since he joined the Board a little over a year ago,"
continued Clark. "Mark's ability to bring people together to work on
critical standards issues will serve us well as he takes on this new role."
Commenting on outgoing Chair Mike Benjamin, Clark added, "Mike was a
tremendous asset for Energistics not only providing leadership and
strategic thinking, but reaching out to prospective members to bring them
into our community; we will miss his wise counsel on the Board." Clark
added, "Tom Halbouty has been a champion of Energistics for a long time and
we look forward to his continued support and leadership on the Board as he
will continue to serve as the Chair of the Audit Committee."
