TOKYO, Dec. 18, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. ("IIJ") (Nasdaq:IIJI), one of Japan's leading Internet-access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and GDX Japan Inc. ("GDX Japan"), IIJ's 51% owned subsidiary, today announced the January 2009 release of GDX Drop Box, a file transfer service that is part of the GDX Trusted Platform, a messaging network for enterprises that provides guaranteed delivery and security.
GDX Drop Box is a new service that enables the transfer of large files easily using a mail-client plug-in called the GDX Plug-in. The files and the transfer route are encrypted on the GDX Trusted Platform, which enables the secure and guaranteed delivery of the file to its recipient.
GDX Drop Box has the following advantages
* Easy to use Simply installing the GDX Plug-in on the mail client that is already in use enables the user to transfer files simply by dragging and dropping the file. The file is then uploaded to the user's "post office box" located on the GDX Trusted Platform, and when the recipient downloads the file, a notice is sent to the user. * No storage limit As long as a file does not exceed the maximum file size per transfer limit set by the user, the user may send an unlimited number of files. It is now possible to send gigabyte size files without concern for transfer limits. * Generate recipient lists automatically With the GDX Plug-in installed, any previously used e-mail addresses can be automatically registered in the recipients list, removing the drudgery of entering recipient information. * Stronger security for file transfers The transmission route between users is encrypted, as is the file itself, providing a more secure file-transfer environment. File downloads can be password protected to further reduce the risk of sending information to the wrong person. * Searchable transmission log System administrators have a dedicated portal site from which they can view and download a transmission log that shows sender, recipient, and a description of the files transferred. Features planned for the future include time stamp authentication and file authentication to support internal corporate control policies.
Due to server overload and information leaks resulting from misdirected messages, the number of corporations restricting or prohibiting e-mail attachments is on the rise. And while file exchange services are increasingly being used as a substitute, internal controls, compliance, and other issues make this option an operational headache for corporations. GDX Drop Box combines user convenience with security to provide an ideal file transfer option for enterprises.
GDX is continuing to enhance its services to build and maintain a secure corporate messaging environment.
