New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller to Deliver Keynote Speech At Deadline Club Awards Dinner, Tuesday, May 19


NEW YORK, May 18, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Deadline Club today issued a special reminder that New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller will give the keynote speech at the Deadline Club Awards Dinner on May 19. Mr. Keller, who has held the highest newsroom position at the New York Times for half a decade, has led the New York Times to more than 10 Pulitzer Prizes, including five Pulitzer Prizes in 2009. Following his speech, Mr. Keller will take questions from the audience. The dinner and speech are open to the public.

The dinner will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria at 301 Park Avenue in Manhattan. This event is the annual awards ceremony of the Deadline Club, the New York City chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The Deadline Club holds a yearly competition for multimedia, newspaper, magazine, television, radio and photographic journalism, with the winners announced at the dinner.

Mr. Keller became the executive editor of The New York Times in July 2003. Before that, he had been an Op-Ed columnist and senior writer for The New York Times Magazine as well as other areas of the newspaper since September 2001. He served as managing editor from 1997 until September 2001, after having been the newspaper's foreign editor from June 1995 until 1997. Mr. Keller won a Pulitzer Prize in March 1989 for his coverage of the Soviet Union. He joined The New York Times in April 1984 as a domestic correspondent based in the Washington bureau. Mr. Keller's selection as keynoter first was announced by the Deadline Club this spring.

This year's most-nominated organizations include The Associated Press, BusinessWeek, The New York Times, Newsweek, Vanity Fair and The Wall Street Journal, each with four or more finalists.
