RICHMOND, Va., May 20, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Doing an excellent job covering the broader and arguably more important facet of war, author Bill Kinsley recounts day-by-day details that help convey a picture of the effects of war. In his book, Backyard to Battlefield and Back, he explores eclectic coverage of the aspects of war that are often neglected in general histories.
In such a visual age, sacrifices made during war are often reduced to images of limbless soldiers, exploding body parts, or blind charges into enemy lines. However, author Bill Kinsley writes a gripping tale of his time in war composed from notes written during the war. It moves the reader to gain insight into the thoughts of a soldier serving his country the best way he can. Kinsley's ability to place the reader in the maelstrom of war helps the reader understand the true emotional, physical, and psychological costs of war.
Eminently readable and both well written and nicely put together (with some attractive photographs), this must-read volume is a powerful story that opens a window on an unknown aspect of war and should appeal to a wide audience. Set in a World War II, Backyard to Battlefield and Back takes the form of the Memoir of Bill Kinsley. Taking us behind the camps, trainings, and the waiting, Bill Kinsley draws on true accounts to render the complex world of strict surveillance and complete allegiance to authority.
