Excess baggage fees for Finnair's scheduled flights have been simplified. Special baggage, such as sports equipment and musical instruments, have been divided into clear groups according to weight and size. “The changes will make the system easier and bring our practice more into line with other airlines,” says Finnair Vice President Paavo Virkkunen. Passengers involved in different sports, for example, will now be covered by consistent rules. Excess baggage fees have been divided into three geographical zones. An extra fee is charged only if the baggage to be carried does not fit within the permitted baggage allowance due to either weight or size. The new excess baggage fees are as follows: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Finland; | Within the | Europe-Asia | | | Stockholm, | rest of Europe | Asia-Europe | | | Tallinn, | one-way | one-way | | | Riga, | | | | | Vilnius, | | | | | St. | | | | | Petersburg | | | | | one-way | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Normal excess baggage fee | €5/kg | €10/kg | €30/kg | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Small special baggage: | €20/bag | €30/bag | €60/bag | | (weight less than 20 kg | | | | | and/or maximum length 1.50 | | | | | m), for example golf bag, | | | | | bowling or fishing | | | | | equipment, skis and water | | | | | skis, snowboard, firearm or | | | | | musical instrument | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Medium special baggage: | €40 | €60 | €100 | | (weight more than 20 kg, | | | | | maximum 32 kg and/or length | | | | | 1.51-2 m), for example | | | | | bicycle, diving equipment, | | | | | surfboard or musical | | | | | instrument | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Large special baggage: | €80 | €100 | €200 | | (weight more than 32 kg, | | | | | maximum 50 kg and/or length | | | | | 2-2.77 m), for example | | | | | windsurfer or musical | | | | | instrument | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Extra large special baggage: | €100 | €130 | €260 | | (weight more than 50 kg and | | | | | length more than 2.77 m), | | | | | for example windsurfer, | | | | | kayak or vaulting pole | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Pet in cabin | €30 | €60 | €100 | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Pet in hold | €5/kg | Europe €10/kg | €30/kg | | | (minimum €30) | (minimum €60), | (minimum | | | | | €100) | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finnair's excess baggage fees apply to scheduled flights operated by Finnair and flight tickets bearing a Finnair flight number. The exception is USA flights, for which the previous practice will continue to be applied. In terms of the flights of other airlines checked in by Finnair, excess baggage fees will be calculated according to IATA prices. Finnair Leisure Flights has its own excess baggage fees.
