DIGIA AND UNIVERSITIES COLLABORATE TO EDUCATE MOBILE DEVELOPERS OF THE FUTURE

Digia, Tampere University of Technology, Aalto University and University of
Helsinki join their strengths in developing Qt-ecosystem during a Qt Code Camp
course in October. During a one week intense course participants will get
familiar with the Qt technology and build a fully functioning application
utilizing the skills they have just learned. The course is implemented
simultaneously in two cities, which sets new requirements on Digia's training
team and also on course practicalities. Digia has a strong understanding of the
learning requirements via long record of Qt technology trainings especially on
mobile platforms.

Complex mobile application environments of today rise up completely new
challenges for software development work, which combined to rapidly advancing
technologies leads developers to the path of constant learning. It is obvious
that learning through working is not efficient enough to familiarize oneself to
technologies of the future. To overcome these issues, Digia and Tampere
University of Technology offer a possibility to participate a seminar-like Qt
Code Camp, which starts by a compact course of basic techniques and eventually
continues to development of full-scale application utilizing the skills just
learned.

"Recently after Nokia acquired Qt Software, Qt application framework has been
developing one of the most versatile and widely supported open technologies in
the application framework segment. Along with the new owner, Qt technology has
shaped also as a credible mobile technology by providing a quick and easy way
to develop applications ranging from desktop usage to latest smartphones.
Compatibility between different operating systems and hardware is indeed one of
the strengths that Qt has to offer, enabling running of same application on any
platform that supports the Qt framework. Additionally, when compared to other
mobile systems, Qt provides easy adaptability and straightforward development
environment", says Tuukka Ahoniemi from Digia, a software company that offers
Qt training on Symbian and Maemo platforms.

"In addition to academic content and stabilized environments Tampere University
of Technology wants to provide students with a modern view to the commercial
world and keep them aware of the requirements that companies may set in the
future. This has been noted especially among students as the number of
participants had to be limited due to excessive interest shown after the
announcement of the Qt Code Camp. And it is not only students, but also
personnel of the Department of Software Systems who have shown interest,
bringing in experience and viewpoints of graduate students.

One of the main objectives for the Qt Code Camp is to encourage participants to
continue developing their competence by providing support in taking the first
critical steps and by highlighting directions where to find more information.
Motivation is not an issue, as course-developed application provides meaningful
reasons for further development" states Janne Lautamäki, responsible of course
practicalities at Tampere University of Technology.

The Qt Code Camp continues the Code Camp series arranged by Aalto University,
Tampere University of Technology and Lappeenranta University of Technology and
is supported by funding of the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries'
Centennial Foundation.
