WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 26, 2009) - The State Educational Technology Directors
Association (SETDA) today announced Douglas Levin as the organization's new
Executive Director. Building upon the growth and success of SETDA under the
direction of Mary Ann Wolf, the departing Executive Director, Mr. Levin was
selected to lead the association based on his professional accomplishments
and broad based knowledge of educational technology, state and federal
policy, and education research.
"The SETDA Board of Directors is thrilled that Doug will be our Executive
Director," said SETDA Board Chair Wayne Hartschuh of Delaware. "He brings a
unique set of knowledge and experiences to SETDA," Hartschuh continued.
"Doug's leadership will be invaluable to the SETDA membership and the
broader education and public policy community as state-led educational
technology innovations continue to drive real improvement and reform for
all students."
Over an 18-year career in Washington, DC, Douglas Levin has become
nationally recognized as an expert in education technology policy --
bridging the fields of education policy, research, and technology. Most
recently, as the Deputy Executive Director of the National Association of
State Boards of Education (NASBE), Mr. Levin launched an effort to spur
innovation in state textbook and instructional materials adoption policies
in light of innovations in digital and open educational resources.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve, support and represent state
educational technology directors at the national level," said Mr. Levin.
"SETDA is well-positioned to expand its leadership in the greater
educational community at this pivotal moment in education. I look forward
to working with our members, my colleagues, and existing and new partners
to ensure that our students, teachers, and schools have the capacity and
tools they need to deliver on the American promise of a complete and
competitive education from cradle to career."
Prior to his work at NASBE, Mr. Levin served as Senior Director of
Education Policy at Cable in the Classroom, the national education
foundation of the cable industry, and before that as a Principal Research
Analyst with the American Institutes for Research. Mr. Levin was
instrumental in the development of the nation's first educational
technology plan in 1996 and its two subsequent updates across both the
Clinton and Bush Administrations.
Levin begins his duties with SETDA on November 16th, 2009.
