As previously announced DONG Energy has decided to carry out further cost
savings as a result of the declining demand for electricity. DONG Energy has
therefore decided to shut down unit 5 of Asnæs Power Station and unit 4 of
Studstrup Power Station from April 1st 2010.
The shutdown of the two power station units will lead to a total reduction of
980 MW, corresponding to 18 per cent of DONG Energy's thermal power production
capacity and 14 per cent of the company's total power production capacity at
the end of 2009.
“The two units were selected on the basis of overall assessments of our power
station portfolio, including the opportunity to minimise costs,” says Niels
Bergh-Hansen, Executive Vice President, DONG Energy.
Unit 5 of Asnæs Power Station uses coal as its main fuel and oil as a reserve
fuel. Unit 4 of Studstrup Power Station uses coal, oil and biomass as fuels.
Any excess biomass will instead be used in unit 3 of Studstrup Power Station.
The announcement of the shutdown of the two units has simultaneously been
communicated to the energy exchange Nordpool.
The information provided in this announcement will not change the previous
financial guidance for the financial year 2009 or the expected investment
