BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - January 15, 2010) - American Library Association Midwinter -
OverDrive (www.overdrive.com), the leading global distributor of eBooks and
audiobooks to libraries, today announced that it has expanded its download
video catalog to more than 10,000 titles from top suppliers including PBS,
Starz, HDNet, and Magnolia Pictures. In addition, new download video
content will be added throughout 2010 as a result of recent agreements with
Digital 1 to 1, Diva Video Access AG, Film Movement, Films Media Group,
Independent Film Channel (IFC), Rooftop Comedy, Sundance Channel, and more
than a dozen other suppliers. OverDrive will showcase its expanded download
video collection, as well as its catalog of digital audiobook, eBook, and
music downloads for public libraries, at ALA Midwinter (booth #2446) in
Boston, January 15-18, 2010.
"Libraries can reach new patrons by enabling 24/7 access to video downloads
on the same 'Virtual Branch' download website that many patrons already use
to access eBooks and audiobooks," said Karen Potash, lead collection
development specialist for OverDrive. "Video downloads are available in
virtually any subject and include narrative features, documentaries, how-to
videos, children's programs, foreign films, and many more."
Like audiobook and eBook downloads from the library, download video can be
accessed 24/7 on a personal computer at home or anywhere a library user has
an Internet connection. Users can watch the video on their computer using
the OverDrive® Media Console™ for Windows® software or transfer an
optimized mobile version to devices from Creative®, Sandisk®, and other
device makers. Users can also wirelessly download video titles from a
library's mobile website to their Windows Mobile® Smartphones with
OverDrive's Windows Mobile app.
OverDrive provides download services for more than 10,000 libraries,
retailers, and schools worldwide with support for PC, Mac®, Sony®
Reader™, nook™, and Android™, as well as the largest collection of
iPod®-compatible audiobooks for libraries. To see if your public library
