CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - May 17, 2010) - Spend Matters, the leading procurement and supply chain information and research hub, recently released the first two papers within a new research series examining the role of analytics within procurement and the supply chain.
The first paper, "The Intersection of Analytics and Supply Chain Risk Management: Using Intelligence to Drive Early Intervention," provides insight into what technologies, vendors and approaches companies should use to target supply risk at an executive level. Examining approaches from such companies as D&B, Ariba, Emptoris, Oracle, Aravo, SAP and other solution providers, the study provides an analysis of different methods and approaches companies use to build visibility into supplier financial and operational risk metrics.
Jason Busch, Principal Analyst and lead author of the study, suggests that "supply risk solutions typically fall into four categories: spend visibility tools (extended to support risk enrichment), supplier performance management applications, supplier information management solutions and pure-play supply risk technologies." Busch also notes that "many companies are confused by the options available to them, yet in this early market, provider approaches and enabling technologies can differ dramatically."
Yet companies must take action if they're to avoid many different supply risk factors in the current economy. When suppliers go bankrupt or otherwise cease operations, Busch suggests that the single cost per occurrence can reach $5 million or more.
