COSTA MESA, Calif., Sept. 30, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that operators, system integrators and device manufacturers are increasingly using CDMA2000® technologies to enable growth in machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. CDMA2000 is currently used by more than 100 M2M module and connectivity device suppliers, platform and service providers and system integrators.
Harbor Research issued a white paper this week reporting that by the end of 2010 nearly 161 million cellular M2M connections will be present worldwide, and this number is expected to increase to 390 million connections in 2014. The study also states that M2M growth will be supported by CDMA2000-enabled device shipments, which grew by 23.7 percent in 2009, and that CDMA2000 1X and EV-DO networks are playing a pioneering role in enabling successful M2M solutions such as CardioNet, DriveCam, Omnilink, OnStar, Redbox, smart meters and other high-profile M2M solutions. The CDMA industry will draw on this experience and a large selection of devices to fuel the growth of M2M services in countries such as Canada, China, India, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Nigeria and the United States.
