Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Partners With Naxos of America for New Music Label Distribution

Inaugural American Portraits Recording Will Be Released on January 25 Featuring Concert Recordings of Works by Composers Including Jennifer Higdon, Charles Coleman, Carter Pann, Jonathan Bailey Holland and Kevin Puts

CINCINNATI, OH and FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) -  Naxos of America will begin distribution of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's new record label, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Media, beginning with their first release on January 25, 2011. Naxos of America also distributes CSO Resound, the in-house label of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and will begin distribution of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's new record label in February.

The CSO's inaugural release on the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Media label, American Portraits, is already available in Cincinnati, but January 25 will mark the recording's wide release, physically and digitally, in North America. All portions of the recording are taken from live recordings between 2001 and 2007.

"This orchestra has a tremendous recording legacy that spans nearly a century and we're thrilled to see this important legacy continue with our new partners at Naxos," said CSO President Trey Devey. "For many (myself included), their first exposure to the CSO has been through its exceptional catalogue of recordings, which has served as a testament to the level of excellence and standing of this great institution."

The CSO announced in October the launch of the institution's own label, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Media, honoring a great recording tradition and important outreach. The CSO was the first orchestra to be broadcast to a national radio audience in 1921 and the third American orchestra to make a commercial recording in 1917.

"It is absolutely important to document the musical heritage and musical life of an orchestra," said CSO Music Director Paavo Järvi. "In this particular city, it is also quite symbolic."
