SEATTLE, Jan. 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising - Keller Rohrback L.L.P. (www.krclassaction.com) announces that it is investigating possible claims against computer software retailer Ascentive, LLC for alleged deceptive and unfair business practices.
The investigation focuses on Ascentive's sale and advertising of software products on the internet that claim to enhance computer performance and protect against viruses. Ascentive represents that computer users are at risk to computer viruses and need general computer maintenance and enhancement. Once computer users download one of Ascentive's computer software products, the Company allegedly engages in numerous unfair and deceptive business practices. For example, purchasers have complained about unfair charges, computer functionality issues, repetitive pop-up messages, and a difficult cancellation process. These practices potentially violate state Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Commercial Electronic Mail Act, the Computer Spyware Act, and the Washington Consumer Protection Act. Ascentive recently settled with the Washington state Attorney General who brought a lawsuit alleging similar deceptive marketing and billing practices.
Websites owned and operated by Ascentive include, but are not limited to: www.fastatlast.com, www.finallyfast.com, www.finallyfastpc.com, www.pcfinallyfast.com, www.scanyourpc.com, and www.escaneorapido.com. The following include some of the products offered by Ascentive through its various websites: ActiveDefender, ActivePrivacy, ActiveSpeed, PC ScanandSweep, PC Speedscan Pro, RAMRocket, Spyware Striker Pro, and WINRocket.
