HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC--(Marketwire - Apr 21, 2011) - Hilton Head Island's newest spokesman is asking its visitors to "Escape the Usual" and give work, technology and stress the cold shoulder. While this may seem rather usual, the new spokesman is a few inches tall, dispenses sage-like advice and lives in a shell.
Enter Henry, the Hilton Head Island turtle -- a laid-back loggerhead with a penchant for ecology, Bloody Marys and encouraging people to relax, unplug and disconnect.
Developed by the Hilton Head Island Visitor and Convention Bureau, this astute new ambassador will be featured in the island's new "Escape the Usual" campaign. The campaign's first spots will air nationally from April 21 to April 24 on CBS and the Golf Channel during the PGA TOUR's The Heritage Golf Tournament, held on Hilton Head Island.
The television spots feature Henry on the beaches of Hilton Head Island, taunting the espresso-swilling smartphone junkie that's become all too familiar in today's society. When it becomes clear that the man is there to relax, the turtle congratulates him on ditching his devices and welcomes him to the island.
The ad directs viewers to www.escapetheusual.com, Henry's own web page with endless wisdom on all things Hilton Head Island -- from eco-tourism to travel packages. The sophisticated sea creature will also dish out island enlightenment through Hilton Head Island's Facebook and Twitter channels. To find Henry, just follow the Twitter hashtag [#hhiturtle].
Hilton Head Island is a classic American resort destination for families, couples and anyone else looking to escape the usual. As Henry will tell you, Hilton Head Island golf and tennis are unmatched. The island's twelve miles of pristine beaches, thriving art and culture scene and five-star dining, shopping and entertainment make Hilton Head Island a remarkable destination.
Public opinion seems to agree -- the island was rated one of the Best Beaches and Best Family Destinations in Southern Living magazine's Readers' Choice Awards and ranked as a Best Beach and Top Ten vacation rental destination in the 2011 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice awards.
