FALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today that it has appointed Charles S. Phalen, Jr. vice president, Corporate and Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) Industrial Security, effective immediately. Phalen reports to Gloria A. Flach, corporate vice president and president, Enterprise Shared Services. He replaces Ed Halibozek who has retired from the company.

In his new role, Phalen leads the Northrop Grumman Security organization and is responsible for oversight of security policies, procedures and processes that protect Northrop Grumman employees, information and property. He will chair the company's Security Council which establishes and executes security governance across the company. 

Phalen comes to Northrop Grumman from his position as director of security for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).  Prior to that, he was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as the assistant director for their Security Division. He has also served as chief of the Protective Programs Group and executive officer for the CIA Office of Security, and center chief for CIA's Office of Facilities and Security Services. Phalen also served as a division chief in the National Reconnaissance Office's Security Center, managing physical, technical and information security programs for government and industrial facilities. 

Phalen earned a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and criminology from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security's International, Defense and Intelligence Council and is active in a number of external security forums.
