The Chicago Council on Global Affairs will host a media call to discuss its new publication Bringing Agriculture to the Table: How Agriculture and Food Can Play a Role in Preventing Chronic Disease. The publication, which will be presented before the opening of the UN High-level meeting on Noncommunicable Disease, identifies new opportunities for those in heath and agriculture to work together to promote better health. Report author, Rachel Nugent, will be on hand along with Council President Marshall Bouton to discuss the report's findings and recommendations for international institutions, national governments, civil society, and agrifood business to mitigate the rising prevalence in noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) worldwide, but particularly in the developing world. Rachel Nugent, PhD, is Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington and Director of the Disease Control Priorities Network. She was formerly Deputy Director of Global Health the Center for Global Development and has advised the World Health Organization, the U.S. government, and nonprofit organizations on the economics and policy environment of NCDs. Her recent research includes tracking donor funding on NCDs.
Marshall Bouton has been president of The Chicago Council on Global Affairs since 2001. Prior to that, he served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Asia Society. He is an author or editor of several books, articles, and opeds on India, Asia, and U.S. foreign policy and has held a number of policy positions with the U.S. government.
