LAFAYETTE, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 6, 2011) - Quipu Applications, Inc., a cloud computing company revolutionizing the way entrepreneurs and VCs communicate and collaborate, today announced that the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) BioVentures has selected its cloud-based BusinessPlan™ and incQubator™ business tools. incQubator will standardize presentations from 20 start-ups allowing 120 seed and venture capitalists attending the university's Private Equity Roundtable event to easily identify the most promising organizations. The Private Equity Roundtable will be held on October 6th and 7th at the Little Rock Regional Chamber in Little Rock, Arkansas. The event is the fifth annual gathering of VCs reviewing start-up companies licensed by UAMS and will be streamed live on http://arcapital.com. One of the 11 companies previously funded, Myeloma Health, LLC, a cancer reference laboratory operating out of UAMS BioVentures incubator, is currently analyzing and reporting data on clinical samples from cancer centers in the U.S. and Europe.
UAMS Arkansas BioVentures, and its Technology Licensing Office (TLO) of UAMS, focuses on the commercialization and development of university research into consumer health products. UAMS BioVentures works closely with global markets in order to advance Arkansas' scientific and economic development as well as create an infrastructure to support both commercialization of technology and start-up company development. Michael Douglas, Ph.D., Director, UAMS BioVentures elaborates on his organization and the value Quipu brings.
"Our dual role as a center for research commercialization as well as a technology licensing office has made an impact on the region and nation's economic development," Douglas explained. "These start-ups continue to create jobs as well as introduce leading-edge technologies, so understanding their business plans and innovations becomes imperative for their success. To assist, we turn to Quipu's cloud-based applications to allow our Private Equity Roundtable to quickly discern what stage these start-up organizations are and their value in the market -- all from a new standardized presentation."
Moving forward, BioVentures will continue to use the Quipu BusinessPlan and incQubator and take full advantage of the Software as a Service (SaaS) solution beyond the two-day conference. With Quipu's Web 2.0 features, the center will now be able to continuously monitor the progress of their entire portfolio of licensed technologies and key performance metrics as well as manage all aspects of their investments -- on demand -- with all stakeholders.
"With Quipu's cloud-based software, we now have branded, dedicated pages for each of our start-ups, allowing BioVentures a unified portal to always monitor and market the progress and success of our selected technologies," Douglas concluded.
"Today's economy is dependent on the support of private equity firms to boost cash-strapped start-ups," said Michael Issa, CEO and co-founder of Quipu Applications, Inc. "We make it easy for organizations such as UAMS to contribute to economic development by leveraging cloud-based applications to collaborate on best practices and monitor various start-up companies' progress."
