Strongbow Resources Inc. Ready to Drill in Alberta

HOUSTON, April 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Strongbow Resources Inc. (OTCBB:STBR.OB) ("Strongbow" or "the Company"), announces it has acquired a surface lease and is proceeding as planned to drill a well, Big Lake Compeer 5-29-33-2W4, in the Compeer area of eastern Alberta. The well will test the Viking and Bakken Formations for the presence of commercial oil. A drilling rig has been contracted from Ensign Drilling. The well is scheduled to be spudded on or about May 15, 2012 and all license transfers and contracts are now in place to allow drilling to commence.

The Compeer Viking Formation oil prospect is part of an emerging large oil resource play in Eastern and Central Alberta as well as in the Dodsland area of Saskatchewan. The deeper Bakken Formation is present in the Compeer area and appears to have characteristics similar to productive Bakken oil shale in Saskatchewan. In the event the Viking Formation is completed in 5-29, Strongbow plans to develop the Viking Formation using four (4) horizontal wells per square mile section. Viking wells drilled on neighboring leases within five kilometers of the Company's targeted drilling site have been completed using horizontal multistage frac completions. Initial production from the Bakken is expected to be higher if that zone proves to be productive after evaluation by the first well. If successful, the Bakken would also be developed by four horizontal wells per section.

Strongbow will be evaluating both zones with a vertical well first and will core both the Viking and Bakken intervals. The Company has farmed into eight (8) sections in the area.
