Shell is celebrating the launch of its New Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines by giving away free fuel at select Shell stations across the country during "Shell Protection Days." The Shell Protection Days gasoline giveaways are designed to provide consumers the chance to try the new fuel for FREE!

With all three grades of New Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines containing 20 per cent more cleaning agents than before, consumers have the option to try the protection benefits of the grade of their choosing.

The first event happened this morning at the Shell station at 2498 Gerrard Street East in Toronto. Shell Protection Days will continue with additional locations revealed next week, giving lucky drivers in other cities a chance to try New Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines for themselves! Follow Shell on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Shell) to learn which cities and Shell stations will host Shell Protection Days. Locations and times will also be disclosed to media in participating cities the morning of the events.

Protection has never been more important as consumers hold onto their vehicles longer

Shell is celebrating the new fuel because it recognizes that consumers want to protect the investment in their vehicles, and that includes the quality of fuel that they use. So whether it is an older vehicle or one just off the show room floor, consumers are increasingly focused on protecting and maintaining their vehicles and part of that is being more conscious about the quality of the products they put into their vehicles to help protect that investment for the long haul.

While newer vehicles boast advanced engine technologies, many Canadians are still choosing to keep their existing cars longer. According to a recent survey by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants, there has been a 20 per cent increase over the past five years in the number of vehicles on the road that are 16 years or older1.

A recent Leger survey found that 87 per cent of mechanics in Canada agree there's a difference between high quality and low quality fuels2. Low quality fuels can leave carbon deposits, or "gunk", on critical engine parts, resulting in less-efficient performance. The unique, patented formula in the New Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System cleans and protects intake valves and fuel injectors, helping the engine perform at its best.

No other gasoline protects better

"Carbon deposits or gunk can build up on fuel injectors and intake valves and make your engine less efficient over time. With 20% more cleaning agents than before, the New Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines actively protect critical engine parts from that performance-robbing gunk," said Jim Macias, Fuels Technology Manager at Shell. "Whether you have an older car that you want to keep on the road or you have a new vehicle with advanced engine technology, the new formulation not only protects against performance-robbing gunk but can also clean up deposits left behind by lower quality gasolines."

For those drivers who simply expect the most from their vehicle's performance, especially those with vehicles whose manufacturers recommend a premium gasoline, the New Shell V-Power® Premium Gasoline boasts the highest concentration of the Shell Nitrogen Enriched Cleaning System, designed to clean-up performance-robbing gunk faster than Shell regular grade gasoline.
