Media Advisory: 14 Mothers With Children Affected by Impaired Driving Gather for Symbolic March on Parliament Hill in Support of Random Breath Testing

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 7, 2012) - Mother's Day will always be one of the hardest days of the year for those moms who have had children killed or injured in impaired driving crashes. On Wednesday, May 9, a group of mothers who have experienced that tragedy will gather for an intimate march on Parliament Hill. Their goal is to raise awareness about impaired driving, and to call on the Government of Canada to introduce random breath testing, an impaired driving countermeasure which has successfully reduced impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries in numerous other countries.

The mothers represent countless other mothers - and all parents, grandparents, children, siblings, aunts and uncles, and all family members and friends - of those killed or injured in impaired driving crashes.

"Every day, on average, 4 Canadians are killed and 174 are injured in impairment-related crashes," says MADD Canada National President Denise Dubyk. "Random breath testing would provide an efficient, cost-effective way to save hundreds of lives and prevent thousands of injuries each year. We need random breath testing in Canada now."

Date: May 9, 2012
Time: 9:30 a.m. at the Centennial Flame
March: Carrying photos of their children, the mothers will march towards Parliament Hill and then back to the Centennial Flame.

National President Denise Dubyk and the others mothers will be available for media interviews and photo opportunities.
