SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Aug. 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Envivio (Nasdaq:ENVI), a leading provider of live and on-demand multi-screen IP video processing and delivery solutions, today announced that AJK Cable Networks has deployed a converged Envivio headend system for its new MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) multi-screen video service, Reena TV. AJK is the first cable operator in India to use a single headend to serve the full range of display devices—TV set-top boxes, connected TVs, PCs, tablets and mobile phones. Operating in the Pondicherry region of India, Reena TV is targeting more than 200,000 customers for their digital service.
AJK Cable selected Envivio Muse™ encoding software on the 4Caster™ Gen III appliance to perform live encoding for its 200 HD and SD TV channels, with variable bit-rate statistical multiplexing to optimize bandwidth efficiency and video quality. Fifty of those channels are transcoded for delivery to mobile devices. Envivio 4Manager™ is used to monitor and control the video headend.
"Our goal was to deliver a high quality TV service on all platforms with the latest cutting-edge technology, from a vendor we could trust," said John Kumar, managing director at AJK Cable Networks. "Envivio offered the most advanced solution on a dense platform with the capabilities we need for today, and as we grow."
Some of the features critical for AJK included audio leveling, statistical multiplexing, SD-to-HD upconversion and programmable logo insertion. Envivio offers a unique feature set for both linear TV and multi-screen applications, while delivering outstanding video quality and performance.
"We congratulate AJK Cable for its leadership in launching India's first converged broadcast TV and multi-screen service," said Julien Signès, Envivio president and CEO. "At Envivio, we are focused on developing the video processing technology and solutions that allow our customers to successfully extend their video services and enhance the customer experience."
More than 300 content and service providers around the globe have selected Envivio to power their multi-screen and broadcast TV services.
